What’s easy to maintain but costly to replace? Why, your transmission, of course! At Quic Transmission & Automotive Services, we have several tips to help ensure your transmission stays in good shape.

#1 – HAVE YOUR TRANSMISSION FLUID ROUTINELY CHECKED. It really is one of the easiest and most effective ways to keep your transmission in good shape. Simply have us check the integrity of the fluid to determine if it’s still useful or needs to be replaced. If the fluid is low or depleted, we will inspect your transmission for leaks and make repairs if needed. It will save you the cost of more extensive transmission work down the road.

#2 – TREAT YOUR BABY TO SOME TLC. By helping to reduce friction, high-quality transmission additives can help extend the life of your transmission and improve its performance. Think of it as a “smoothie” for your car; and ask us to recommend transmission additives that are right for your car, truck or SUV. As your transmission specialist in Albuquerque, New Mexico, we are at your service.

#3 – ASSESS YOUR DRIVING SKILLS. If you drive a vehicle with an automatic transmission, be sure your vehicle is always in the recommended “drive” mode for the terrain and road conditions. If you are prone to riding your brakes, this could seriously impact your transmission. Make a conscious effort to ease up on the accelerator rather than using your brakes to reduce speed. If you drive a stick, keep an eye on the tachometer to stay in the appropriate gear. Downshift to reduce speed rather than riding the brakes, and always stop before you shift into or out of reverse. Also, make sure any person who drives your car is used to a manual transmission. We’ve seen our fair share of transmission damage done by unskilled shifters.

#4 – BE AWARE OF CLUES. If you see a wet spot or puddle on your garage floor, driveway or parking space, it could be the result of a transmission leak. Swing on by so we can determine if the leak, is indeed, coming from the transmission. If you detect a strange odor, experience grinding while shifting gears or hear odd noises, these could also be signs your transmission has an issue. Make plans to come see us ASAP. At Quic Transmission & Automotive Services, we are your transmission specialist in New Mexico.

#5 – TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR VEHICLE. By having your vehicle routinely serviced and/or tuned up, you can help avoid engine problems which could impact your transmission’s performance. Also, be aware of your vehicle’s limits when deciding to tow or haul vehicles or other heavy loads. The added weight could cause wear and other issues for your transmission. If you do have heavy-duty plans for your vehicle, speak to us about the benefit of adding a fan or auxiliary cooling system to keep your transmission cooler.
