Just like your body, your car needs regular care in order to keep it running. Staying on top of your routine maintenance schedule is necessary for making sure your car is safe and reliable, especially if you do a lot of driving. By now you probably know about the importance of a regular oil change schedule, but proper car maintenance requires a little more than that. In this article, we will break down what services should be performed at certain intervals.
• 3,000 – 7,000 Miles – Every 3,000 miles is the recommended amount of times between oil and filter changes, but your vehicle’s owners manual might say something different. Check your owner’s manual about replacing your engine oil and schedule an appointment to have an inspection of your transmission fluid, coolant, power steering, washer fluid, and wiper blades. You should also take a look at your tires and exterior lights.
• 15,000 – 30,000 Miles – Your vehicle’s air filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles to ensure your cabin air stays breathable and the air flows properly to your engine. By 20,000 miles you should inspect the battery and coolant and then replace your fuel filter at 25,000 miles. When you’ve reached 30,000 miles the HVAC system, radiator hoses, brake pads, and suspension systems should all be inspected.
• 35,000 – 50,000 Miles – By 35,000 miles your car battery has been through and done a lot, so make sure to either have it inspected or replaced. Soon after servicing your car battery, you’ll be replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires and having an inspection for the ignition and suspension systems when you reach 40,000 miles. When your vehicle hits 45,000 and 50,000 miles it’ll be time to have all these inspections completed once again.
• 60,000 Miles – If you’ve reached 60,000 miles on your vehicle, you have either owned your car for a long time or you have done a lot of driving. Either way, congratulations! Now it’s time to replace your brake pads and brake fluid, radiator hoses, coolant, power steering, and timing belt. Also schedule an inspection for the HVAC system, suspension components, and your tires.
The information listed above is general ideas regarding when you should have these services completed, but your specific car may have slightly different requirements. Make sure to sit down with your owner’s manual and read through your manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule.
